PSU and GPU compatibility concerns

Go to solution Solved by UnlimitedTMD,

Yes, it will, the 960 needs dual 6-pin, which the PSU has

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum section but, is it possible to install the gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 4GB model with the Corsair RM550X? I didn't realised my mistake until I reviewed my parts after I pressed Buy. Hopefully I don't have to buy another PSU since the price and shipping fee is crazy here in Australia.

Cheers :D

What the hey....

More than likely, yes.

That's a great psu, so you should be fine assuming your other parts often system is like an average user (no 9590 or dual CPU or insane amount of hard disks or case fans)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Ahh Sweet, I can finally build my first custom PC :D

960 requires single 6-pin

here's an exhaustive list for GPU/PSU recommendations and compatibility

CPU: Intel i7 5820K @ 4.20 GHz | MotherboardMSI X99S SLI PLUS | RAM: Corsair LPX 16GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz | GPU: Sapphire R9 Fury (x2 CrossFire)

The card that I chose requires a 6 pin and 8 pin connectors though :/

that is most definitely not reference design and most likely 970 and some sites are just copy pasta bullshit,

like Core2Duo running at 3GHz is 4cores X 3GHz = 12GHz CPU

I think for this build https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=wish_lists&wlcId=559524&action=wish_lists I shouldn't be that much. I'm re-using my ssd and laptop HDD (2tb HDD)

well from the list you linked it says that the GPU requires one 6-pin external power connector

and $309 is crazy expensive for a 960... even if those are 309 Australian Rubles... have you considered look up a second hand 290?

CPU: Intel i7 5820K @ 4.20 GHz | MotherboardMSI X99S SLI PLUS | RAM: Corsair LPX 16GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz | GPU: Sapphire R9 Fury (x2 CrossFire)

I'm a little worried about second hands :P and yeah, everything here is expensive. Usually it includes tax and credit card charges :P not even gonna talk about shipping fee. My friend was selling his 295x2, but I had to decline since it's too pricy for me.

but the 960 in your linked wish list still requires single 6-pin

why would you think it needs both 8-pin and 6-pin?
