Hi all.

My sister's 2010 MacBook is having a few issues.

The battery died in it last night because she left it on, not on charge. She turned it on this morning, got to the logon screen but her keyboard and trackpad didn't work so she held down the power button to restart it.

Now, the stupid thing doesn't want to turn on at all.

It will get like a sixth through booting but then just turns off.

I've tried:

  • Safe boot. Same thing still happens.
  • Repairing the drive within Recovery Mode, nothing to repair it says.

I'm still yet to try it with another drive but I'm going to wait until the afternoon to do any of that.

I need to get this computer working for my sister again as she needs it for her education which she can't really do without her files which are on this laptop. I know it's not a hardware issue especially because I booted an Ubuntu bootable USB on the thing.

Please, I'm willing to try anything to get it working again.

Thanks, Alpha.

If it works with another boot drive (your USB), then it's probably the HDD that isn't working.

I thought that but now I'm booted into recovery mode off of the drive and am verifying the permissions. I know my friend had this issue ages ago on his Mac running Mavericks so I'm hoping this is an easy fix.

Thanks, I'm recommending my sister an SSD for it because HDD's are always the first part to go in a computer.
