While replacing a dead SSD I thought I'd re-apply some TIM since it's been a few years and I've noticed my temps are a little higher lately, but upon trying to re-seat the water block, two of the mounting pins are turning inside the seating notch on the back plate meaning I can't tighten it down properly.

It's not the pins themselves that are stripped from what I can tell, but the plastic notch that is not keeping it in place while screwing in the retention screw from the other side, and I did NOT have this problem when I originally put the block on.

Any tips? Am I just going to have to use some pliers to keep it in place while I'm turning the retention pin?

I'm guessing the back plate is mandatory, not so much to support the weight of the water block, but to keep the mounting pins from crushing the PCB?

If not it would make it easier using pliers to hold them in place while seating the water block.
