Drive Sharing Windows 10

Go to solution Solved by Jarsky,

Recommending someone to downgrade their windows version isn't a solution.

So with Windows 10 you cannot share a whole disk using basic sharing, this is to restrict you from accidentally sharing private information.

Using Advanced Sharing, you need to tick 'Share this folder', then click on "Permissions", and add the group 'Everyone', and give them at least Read access.

Apply then OK.

If you check under the Security tab > Advanced

then click on the Share tab, you should see 'Everyone' in there which would indicate that non-authorised users should be able to access the folder.

Hi all,

I'm having an issue sharing a drive with Windows 10. I'm trying to share the drive with multiple other Windows 10 machines and possibly other machines running different OSs in the future. I already have a couple folders shared from this machine with my network by disabling password protected sharing and sharing them with everyone using basic file sharing. However, when I go to share the drive I can only use advanced sharing. When I attempt to share the drive with everyone this way I get a permissions error when accessing from another machine. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Other info:

All Windows 10 machines have the same Microsoft Account on them.

I would prefer to keep password protected sharing off as I am on a secure network and it makes life easy.

There is no Home-group setup.

the only way i got around that on my media/file server was to go back to win 7 since 10 is still semi useless compared to what we can use win 7/8. i did get it to work on a per file share but thats too much dam work . folders and drives i dont know why it wont share without a password Microsoft response to me was upgrade to pro and it would work . in a support ticket i sent . which i dont believe for a second that pro is the answer they just want more money.

edit i did get it to work correctly sharing from a windows 10 machine to another 10 but not to 7 or 8 or any other os
