So a while ago, I made a post regarding the iBUYPOWER Revolt 2, asking which GPU I should get with it. And a lot of you decided to just custom build instead.

And originally I was resistant, insisting that I had no interest in building my own computer at the time.

But over time... that interest sparked and then grew, until I HAD to have a machine of my own creation in my posession.

Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone in between...

Dreemurr-One.

(Almost.)

(oh jeez i need to wipe down the case it's GROSS)

As you can see, I went with a Cooler Master Mastercase 5. I wanted to get the Pro 5 but it's nbd, I have the window panel I wanted it for currently on the way.

This is what my desk looks like rn. Hey look, it's this post! Except it sucks more. It's in the process of being made as I make it!

Postception. /bricked

(btw, the Mass Effect print at the back was made by my art teacher!! ignore the 2012 A7X meme it was a hARD TIME OKAY)

For peripherals, I got a Logitech webcam the name of which escapes me, a Logitech Proteus Spectrum mouse, a Logitech G410 Atlas Spectrum keyboard, a HyperX Fury mousepad, an Asus 1440p monitor (the name of which also escapes me but it's vey'noice, IPS, 144Hz and everything except the kitchen sy--I mean G-Sync.)

And then Audio-Technica ATH-M50X cans and an AT2005USB mic.

Now for the fun stuff.

Interior view ft. thumb! (Oops.)

This sucker had almost no expense spared. I got a Z170-A motherboard from ASUS, an i7-6700k kept nice and frosty by a CM Hyper 212 Evo air cooler (may upgrade to an AIO water cooler at some point), an EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC with ACX+, and 16GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM running in dual-channel. I have a Samsung 850 EVO 240GB SSD for boot and a Seagate 2TB mechanical hard drive for mass storage.

All this powered by a Corsair CS650M modular power supply, helpfully advised to me by the very friendly representative at Canada Computers.

The cable management is garbage because it's not quite done yet.

I have CableMod RGB strips coming in. When they're in I'll be finishing up the cable management.

Glamour shots?

Glamour shots.

(The card is further overclocked by 100MHz after EVGA's factory overclock.)5700cfe1dc756_IMG_20160403_0353599901.th5700d00a3b63e_IMG_20160403_0353046261.th

(My thumb is running at stock speeds.)

So that's what I did with my April Fool's Day. I built an almost-$5000 CAD gaming PC.

Happy late 18th birthday to me.

TBD:

Finish cable management.

Install RGB lights.

Undertale-themed paint on the front and side panels.

(IF you guys care, and I guess you would, I ran some benchmarks on it!! Here's the results. These are before the further GPU overclock!)

Unigine Valley (Extreme HD, 1440p): 2408
GTAV Benchmark (1440p, All at Very High, some advanced graphics turned up): Avg. FPS at 45. Game itself runs enjoyably.
3DMark Fire Strike: 15,529
3DMark Fire Strike Extreme: 7959

Overall, this computer is the best thing I've built with my own two hands and I'm really proud of it so far. For my very first build it turned out pretty nice!!

As for my old computer, I'm giving it to my 12-year-old sister (13 in July). It fits her use-case scenario perfectly and I think she'll like it a lot.

It's like that one kid in comp sci? You just want to punch him, but you can't because he's "special" and starts fires or something.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update!! I have put on some RGB LEDs from CableMod and cleaned up the cable management a great deal. It's almost complete. All that's left to do now is the decals.
