After Effects CPU Usage

So I am editing video in AE and when I load something it always lags a bit before it can cache it to the RAM and the GPU can fully render it out. While when it is rendering it out my CPU usage always goes to 99% or 100% so I am guessing that is a bottleneck for my GTX980ti. I sorta need to edit video fast as it is my job. So should I just get a 5960X and 64gb of RAM and call it a day?

Just keeping this here as a Neither AE or Premiere Pro are CPU whores.  If you add a lot of effects (or 3D elements in AE) that support GPU acceleration to the footage in the timeline, it will start utilizing the GPU during rendering.

 

Look in AE or Premiere and see how many effects out of all the total it comes pre-packaged supports GPU acceleration.

So then what will make the timeline render faster? I think more RAM as I am hitting 15gb out of 16gb and the green means prerendered in the RAM and then the other means cached in hard drive

Look in AE or Premiere and see how many effects out of all the total it comes pre-packaged supports GPU acceleration.

When I scrub through timelines, I'm fairly lucky to hit 15% GPU utilization, no matter how many GPU accelerated transitions or effects I use. Hell, when I RENDER it's the same story.

32GB might help.  Look at some online guides on how to improve AE performance.
