Whelp. I have decided to finally swallow my pride and admit that the Gigabyte G1 Gaming R9 390 was not my finest purchase. It runs hot, loud, and somewhat unstable. I get pretty rough artifacting with no overclock. It's voltage locked and has a plethora of compatibility issues. However, it is the exact amount of performance I need, and I feel like I would be losing money trying to resell it to get a different card. So the question is, should I bite the bullet and get a completely new card, wait for Pascal and Polaris, or should I attempt to tackle the most annoying issues, such as heat and noise, with a liquid graphics AIO, like the Kraken G10 or the corsair equivalent. I already have a Kraken X61 I could put on it, but I wanted your opinion on if this is even worth attempting to salvage. Thanks in advance for all feedback!

I would attempt to RMA your current card first. Then either keep the replacement or wait for pascal/polaris.

Well 390's do run hot and are power hungry but from what u are writing about artefact's even at stock voltage that does not seem right and standard cooling should do the job so buy a G10 seems pointless to me. Personally I would RMA it I have only ever had EVGA GPU's and when I have had to deal with there support team they have been. Top dog so cant comment on any other companies.

Most are fairly cool and quiet - MSI, Sapphire, XFX. Gigabyte are loud tho

OP, RMA the card. Even though it's a poor design, it should NOT be artifacting

From what I've heard, Gigabyte Radeon cards are not the best and have high RMA rates. Maybe RMA the card, then sell it as a factory refurb? With original packaging / invoice / warranty you should be able to sell it without too much of a loss. Maybe they'll even give you a new card, who knows.

Grab a sapphire, MSI, XFX like don_svetlio says.

i had the same problem with the exact same card, i managed to return it (6 months between purchase and that decision) and simply bought the sapphire model from the same store. im happy i did it, as the sapphire model is much better in both noise and temperature. things to consider when getting the sapphire though are that it uses 2 8 pin connectors instead of 1 8 pin and 1 6 pin like the gigabyte one, also it is alot longer and heavier
