Maybe 400 or 500 no real set budget but I would like a good pair for my 970 to make a good computer for now then in a few years upgrade

i5-6600K - $245

Z170-A - $155

H60 Cooler - $60

$460 and you'll be set for a long time.

If your case has the room, consider a Corsair H115i instead, it is $45 more but does have more cooling performance and may well get you another 5-10% overclock depending on your luck of the draw on chips.

So I have a 8350 it has been giving me problems and since am3 is being phased out what is a nice intel based jump from the 8350 to the new skylake should I go with the i7 the i5 or the xeon e3 that some people have been using with success ? If you could give me a model and a mother board as well that would bee nice I need a sweet spot for cpu mobo combo I have a 970 now I would like soon to upgrade to 4k I don't want to spend alot but if it's worth I can find the money

i mean if you can the i7 is pretty nice but budget wise the i5 would be a better pair for the 970 or even a 980ti.

i7 - the difference in multi-core performance between the 8350 and i5 6400/6500 is small. Go for a 6700 or 6700K

i went from an FX-8320 overclocked to 4.6ghz to an i7-4770K at 4.2ghz and it's worth every penny...the AMD was limiting even my overclocked GTX 780 in games at 1080p...the 4770K can feed the 980ti @ 1440p without a hitch...i would strongly recommend the i7-6700K if money is not an issue it would have OP set for many years of happy gaming...in EVERY game.

well it is for gaming...for productivity and multi-tasking not so much...but even when i disable hyper-threading in my BIOS my intel chip is still vastly stronger than anything AMD has to offer when it comes to gaming performance.

In some games yes. in others no.

in every games, only some are CPU bound and some are GPU bound...but overall a much faster chip that will produce better minimum and more consistent framerates with less stuttering in EVERY games (find me a single reputable gaming benchmark in which ANY AMD CPU beat an intel SANDY-BRIDGE CORE i5 CPU or better and then we'll talk about it!)

(hint: 3-4 generations old intel stuff still beat the best current AMD processor in games that's a well known documented fact)

Your core i5-4590 CPU is faster and more capable in games then even the FX-9590...across the board.

THAT SAID, i would hold on to the FX until OP can afford the hyper-threaded unlocked version of the chip, obviously.

If you're just gaming, the i5-6600K paired with a ASUS Z170-A motherboard makes for a REALLY nice match.

4.5 to 4.7GHz on the overclock (with watercooling) and you'll be rocking in games for years.

The i7 is largely for content creators, the hyperthreads don't make a difference to the vast majority of games, and those that they do, it is minor.

If you have the money, by all means, go i7-6700K and a ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero board, it will be slightly faster and it has more features.  But it isn't as good of a value as the i5 and cheaper -A board.

Both ASUS boards have one click auto-overclocking, couldn't be easier.

If your case has the room, consider a Corsair H115i instead, it is $45 more but does have more cooling performance and may well get you another 5-10% overclock depending on your luck of the draw on chips.

Would you recommend instead of a h60 reuse my h212 Evo and then invest in to a water cooling loop later on for a basic loop it be about 250 or so compared to the h100i at around 110

the cooler master hyper 212 is a fantastic air cooler and getting 2 good quality and good looking fans for it in the future would be a very good investment if you don't want to deal with pump noise and rads and shit...i'm super happy with mine it allow me a good overclock on my i7-4770K a notoriously hot chip when compared to something like the 6600K you will get good performance with it...it can look pretty cool too.

i have a 240mm watercooler in my closet and i don't even use it i prefer the 212 it's much quieter and more reliable.

If you already own the 212 EVO, yea, I'd be tempted to keep it.

Comparing going out and spending $30 on it vs $60 of a H60, I'd spend the extra $30.  But if your cost on the 212 is zero since you own it, keeping it can make sense.  It is a good cooler.

I would suggest buying new thermal paste, you can buy a tube of Artic Silver 5 for a few dollars on Amazon or eBay, it'll last for years since you only need a drop of it.
