Hi! :)

I'm currently on the hunt for a new laptop/ultrabook for the final year of my degree (Mech Eng) and to somewhat replace my desktop.

Looking for recommendations for a device that is:

1. Lightweight (<2kg preferred)

2. Can handle large documents as well as AutoCAD files and software

3. Long battery life (5hrs+ would be awesome)

Not too worried about:

- Gaming capability

- Super high screen resolution

- Speakers, Illuminated Key board

Basically looking for a workhorse somewhere around the $1500 mark.

I'm in Australia, so unfortunately some of the "Top 10 Laptops" just don't exist here. :(

Cheers,

Cat :)

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

I wasn't wrong. It's extremely rare that I am. I provided sources as well. Different devs can disagree. Further, we now have confirmed discrepancy from Twitter about he use of the pre-release 1080 driver in AMD's demo despite the release 1080 driver having been out a week prior.

You apparently haven't seen his responses to questions on YouTube. He is very condescending and aggressive in his comments with which there is little justification. He acts totally different in his videos. I don't necessarily care for this content style and there is nothing really unique about him or his channel. His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.

Cheers Shahnewaz,

Awesome, just had a look at them. Was also having a look at the asus Zenbook UX305. Any idea how they stack up against each other?

Thanks again!

No problem!

I recommended Lenovo Thinkpads because they are the top dog when it comes to making the best work Ultrabooks.

Not sure about ASUS Laptops, since the only premium ASUS laptop I had the opportunity of using was the UX303LA. It was great, while it lasted. One corner of the hinge broke free from the base after a couple of months, and my brother decided to RMA it and sell.

Mind you, the UX305 is a consumer grade product. The Thinkpads are business grade, and hence they are much better for work related use.

Avoid all laptops with Intel Core M CPUs, and any laptops with ridiculous screen resolutions (greater than 1080p). That includes any Zenbooks or any laptop for the matter.

I have a Thinkpad T450s, and now I see why people are so crazy for Thinkpads.

What kind of AutoCAD and workload are we talking about? Is it particularly demanding? How does your desktop fare with those workloads?
