CowsGoMoo32
Go to solution Solved by Colt_0pz,

Overwrite it several times with zeros using overwriting applications

Recently upgraded to 2 - 1TB SSDs from 2 - 240GB SSDs. I now sold one of the SSD's and I need to know how to wipe it. Thank you.

Turn on your computer. Plug the SSD in, go to Disk Management, delete all partitions.

That marks all the storage as free space

Really? I thought it just makes everything unallocated space after deleting all partitions?

Nope. windows marks all the storage as free space. The best way to erase all data is to destroy the drive but ofc then you cant use it.

It makes the computer THINK the SSD is blank, but software (which you can find for free) can say to the drive 'No, I think there's something there' and force it to read a given location. This allows you to recover accidentally deleted files, if they aren't overwritten by something else.

Could be mistaken, away from my computer right now. Doesn't Ccleaner have an overwriting erase utility?

SSD's can actually be ruined by overwriting is a lot. One time in this case is okay, but I would not recommend doing it multiple times to a single SSD as it destroys its lifespan and speed.

GPU: XFX RX 7900 XTX

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
