Depends if Dell have released a BIOS update to support the new CPU. You can upgrade it; however it depends on the board and the choice of CPU will be limited by the board. In my opinion it isn't worth it as the performance increase won't be massive and it's much more difficult to replace a CPU on a laptop than it is in a desktop so the time / performance increase alone doesn't really justify it, to be honest.

If you tell me what your laptop is, i can find the motherboard information, but it will be something very similar to the t9550..

i have a dell 1545

Ok, well any Socket P (478) Core 2 duo would be compatible. There's a large array, so take your pick - although, again, I don't think it's worth it.

In regards to an SSD upgrade - yes, you can upgrade to the 520 no problems.

Just a note, Dave:) not every laptop its hard to replace the CPU. I have here the Dell Latitude E6400 (14inch), and with 5 screws I can open it, remove the heatsink, and access the CPU. 4-5 more screws I can pull out the motherboard out of the system. Its honestly I would say it's just as easy as working inside a desktop computer with a good case.

It all comes down to, are you willing to pay for engineering of the internal design of the system, cooling system and build quality or not.

The board is fine, get a 3570k and be happy with. IF you need more help, head on over to the New Build Logs&Planning sub forum. As for overclocking; there are multiple guides out on the internet, when you build your new rig, post in the CPUs&Hardware sub-forum for some help regarding overclocking. It's an easy method to grasp, just need to invest in some time. :)

True; but then you have to factor in you're working in a much more confined space, so it's not always easy - but i take your point. :)
