Hello Everyone!

So in the next month I plan to build my first pc and I've got about 1100-1400 USD for a budget. This will be mostly for gaming, handling everything from KotOR to Fallout 4 or Doom, but I also plan on doing some work with Unity and Maya. Right now I have an older Dell 1080p monitor and a friend's old gpu, though he could not remember what it was assures me that he bought it within the last 3 yrs, as well as mouse and keyboard. I plan on upgrading the monitor and gpu in the next year but would appreciate any advice about the parts I've picked. The build listed here is on the low end of what I'm thinking, if I were to spend more I'd likely upgrade to 16gb of RAM, add a boot SSD and a Corsair H60. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't recommend going by your friends old GPU. Three year old GPUs probably won't do well in games like fallout, and God forbid it turns out to be a low end card.

You can save up for a new GPU by simply getting a cheaper drive (do you really need a black drive?) and also at this budget I'm pretty sure you can get a SSD. Also stick with 8GB of RAM since most games don't make use of it. And your power supply is pretty overkill, stick with 650W unless you plan to go with two GPUs (which is generally not recommended unless you have a top tier card).

Also generally since most games are GPU bound, your better off with a i5 and a more powerful GPU.

I would dumb down the power supply and get the EVGA SuperNova 650w, you don't need 750w.

Use the money you saved to get an AIO water cooler and overclock the 6700k.

Since you are gaming on a 1080p monitor, I would buy a gtx 970 and that would keep you good for a long time as long as you stay on 1080p.

If you really do want 16 GB of RAM settle for a GTX 960 or R9 380, and you could probably afford a 120gb ssd with that money.

I'd think long and hard about suffering with less storage space initially and try to get a SSD in there right off the bat.  Such an otherwise fast machine is going to be absolutely *miserable* with a boot HDD.

Parts look fine.  If you know you'll be using an add-in GPU, and don't have a big desire to overclock, you could look at the Xeons without onboard graphics.  Could save you a bit of money.

1. Wait for the new GPU generation to come out (in about 6 months)

2. You're never wrong with the most expensive card you can afford, you always get what you pay for.

3. If you want the ultimate SWAGness you can think about two cheap GPU's in SLI, even though this is actually not the best method.

4. I am personally using a GTX 960 and it can run most games on ultra and 60 fps, however I recommend pick up at least a GTX 970 because I cannot have AA enabled or just 2xAA.
