WIFI works on Gaming PC, but Ethernet refuses to work.

Hello everyone!

First post here and hopefully it will be a good one.

I've had this problem now since Thursday night. I literally tried every solution to fix this problem and nothing has worked. Even tried to call Microsoft, Comcast(My ISP), a local technician and they have no clue how to fix this. I even did a fresh install of Windows 10 to see if this works and my problem still persists.

My WIFI works through my laptop, the Ethernet works on my laptop too, but the Ethernet on my gaming PC just doesn't work. If I type ipconfig /release. It works. But, if I try to renew it, it says its unable to reach the DHCP server. Any help would be appreciated! Just ask if you need more information than what I provided.

My router/modem is all in one, provided by my ISP, Comcast. I believe it's called a Gateway.

Couple things I have noticed from a cursory look, your subnet mask is not correct, it is supposed to be 255.255.255.0 about 99.99% of the time.

Second, it appears that you adapter is trying to use IPv6 for everything, which is theoretically okay, but a very strange practice. Most devices are still stuck on IPv4. Check your router to ensure it is IPv6 enabled, and make sure that IF you want to use it (which you really don't need to for local networks), it is enabled on all your devices. I would advise IPv4 for your network. Additionally, I do not know what DNS you are using, but it doesn't appear to be working out too well for you, so try setting it to 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4 (google's DNS). Let me know if any of these things were unclear, and if anything worked or changed if you did them.

Ok. You're gonna have to walk me through all this because I'm not to good with networking stuff. Here is something that I did try though, I disabled my Ethernet jack and then enabled it, here is what I get.  http://i.imgur.com/sxvYpBx.png . The IPV6 isn't even being detected.

I see that says internet is working now. What I would suggest then, is to go to the exact screen you sent me (including the popup windows), and click on properties, and there will be a list of various boxes to check or uncheck. Simply uncheck IPv6. Then, let it run for a while, and if you don't have any issues we're done. If not, we can try more serious diagnostics

That's odd, because here   http://i.imgur.com/sxvYpBx.png  you had internet.

Anyway, re-enable IPv6. Then, go to that same list, and for both IPv4 and IPv6, put in your settings manually. Default gateway is the same as in your original post, subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Use the DNS I put in my first reply, and for the address just pick the one you had in your original post, and if you're really a stickler then you can save those addresses for your PC in your router, but that process is different in every router, so helping you with that is rather difficult online.

Before I proceed with this, the IPV6 doesn't seem right. http://prntscr.com/aldho4

Why not? IPv6 addresses are in hex, and are longer than IPv4. Otherwise there's be no point for them existing.

Ahh, also the Default gateway, what do I put there? I get the same format as IPv6. http://prntscr.com/aldixz

You'd have to go to your router settings and check, check on another device, or make an educated guess and try 192.168.0.1

Sure. Worst that can happen is it still doesn't work.

WIFI seems to be the only thing that works at the moment, looked up solutions online, tried all them. Didn't work.

Yes I am in it now. I also did a troubleshooting and it saw no issues with any of the ends, the gateway or my end.

Tell me this:

Is DHCP enabled on your router?

What is your Router's internal IP address?

What is your Router's subnet mask (or just tell me the subnet)?

What is your laptop's IP address?

What is your laptop's Subnet mask?

What is your laptops default gateway?

Do you have multiple routers? (i.e. what is your modem and what is providing the Wireless)

Report back.

1) Yes it is. When I renew the IP in CMD. It says that it's unable to contact the DHCP servers.

2)I'm not sure where to find this.

3) 255.255.255.0

4)10.0.0.4

5)255.255.255.0

6)fe80::5e57:1aff:feb3:dae1%9 or 10.0.0.1

7)I have a gateway provided by Comcast.

Router's IP is the default gateway. When he asks if you have multiple routers, he wants to know (most likely, Daisy chaining routers is rare and bad) if you have a router and a modem, or a combo unit (which I think you do). I might help more tomorrow, but I'm gonna go to bed. Night everyone. Hopefully we can fix shit tomorrow.

Found the problem! It twas the ethernet cable! Brought my GAMING PC downstairs to my gateway and plugged in a different ethernet cord. It worked! Full 100 down and 10 up speeds! Thanks all for your support. Didn't know it was this simple!
