Please don't listen to this guy, are you using CUDA accelerated programs or will OpcnCL work?

honestly im not sure i was just planning on  installing a few games for fun, and doing my audio and video editing at other times. so i guess the answer is OpenCl will be fine

Picking up a older GPU is a safer bet as they were desgined to run with PCIe 2.0 8X (same as 3.0 4x) in mind.

It I'll work, people on the AMD FX CPUS still run PCI-E 2.0 'cause that's all it supports natively, and they run GeForce cards fine on a 8x slot

Not all, and razer is releasing the core  which uses 3.0 4x speeds, I doubt they'll spend millions on R&D and have nvidia users not be able to use which has more market share than AMD

It uses Thunderbolt, not PCIe 3.0 x4 - PCIe 3.0 x4 is 4GB/s whereas Thunderbolt is 40GB/s

It's 40 gigabits not 40 gigabyte, get some glasses, not the same GB/S to GBps

In conclusion here, you should use CUDA on your programs, don't buy too High end of a card for the EGPU ie GTX TITAN. If you are still sketchy about this, try the gt 740 on the expansion box thing

Thunder bolt runs off PCI-E too, so it can't be higher than what maximum PCI-E 3.0 16x can handle which is 16 GB/s

Yeah, I noticed the stupidity of that as soon as I posted it
