so this is the PC I had bought 2 Christmas ago but I brought the 750ti and the monitor last Xmas due to low budget. (I'm 12, I don't get very much money, my dad paid for the SSD and PSU) are there any cheap upgrades I could do to this PC, for example, a good air cooler. anything for under $150AU. I have not reapplied thermal compound at all and I am using the intel stock cooler. this is my PC  http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/XpwxD3

Intel i3-4160 - Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 - Asus GTX 750Ti OC - Corsair CX500M - Samsung 840 EVO 120GB - WD Scorpio Blue 500GB 2.5" - WD Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" - CoolerMaster Hyper 212x.

nothing much i would touch about this system, assuming you have a case to put everything in (lol)

save that $150 and buy a better gpu down the road :P

there is no case in the pcpp because my case is an eBay one that looked nice and it's not on pcpp. how would a 5th gen i3/15 be? or a 4th gen i7 be? i know where to get them cheap but would they bottleneck?

so far your computer is pretty balanced, your gpu is in need of upgrading more than your cpu if you wanna see improvement in games

but there arent any gpu better than the 750 ti at your budget

you can get an i5 4th gen if you want, i dont recommend you going skylake because you have to change motherboard and ram too

but you wont see much improvement in most games

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

ok, I think ill just save my money for a Coolermaster 212x hyper CPU cooler.

thats really unecessary, especially for an i3

is your processor overheating? if its not i recommend just staying with your stock cooler

You do not need a 212x for an i3. I cannot stress that enough..

well, my i3 does get higher temps than you would expect from an i3... about 72C average from playing very simple games like Minecraft and about 75C from games like bf4, rocket league and csgo. 60C from stuff like youtube, skype, all your common stuff that isn't gaming. I will try a reapplication of thermal compound, if that doesn't fix anything I will get a new cooler. if not the 212x what cooler would you recommend? (that's not an intel stock cooler of course)

my i5 gets 83 celcius on stock cooler lol

anyway, for your chip, below 75 degree is considered cool, as long as your chip doesnt thermal throttle (needs a real high temp for it to thermal throttle)

i dont see a point for you to get a better cooler, just put that money elsewhere that will improve your system :I

the heat has been leading to high temps and freezing of my system which leads to low fps in games. wait... aren't you using a dark rock pro 3?

yea i changed because i cant stand the looks of the stock cooler lol, im the kind who spend money just for my computer to look nice :P

i doubt your cpu will cause any problems if its just below 75 celcius tbh...

I would honestly, even if it doesn't need it, get an aftermarket cooler.

Hyper 212 X is unnecessary, get Hyper 212 EVO. Cheaper and good. (if you can find one, the pcpartpicker shows that there wouldn't be a store with them available currently)

Or, you could also get one of these two:

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/cryorig-cpu-cooler-c7

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rrt418pkr1

Depending of whether your case can fit the bigger one or not.

my intel stock cooler failed, I have no idea what happened. told my dad, he ended up buying me a 212x anyways. I told him to get a Coolermaster or corsair cooler. it runs at about 32C average idle and about 45C under load average.

I don't think I'd buy anything for that build. It's fairly balanced as someone else said. Best just to be happy using it for a few years and save your money. Build another system down the road when Cannon-Lake comes out and you're older and have more cash. Mow some yards or bag some groceries and you can get you something nice for the second generation of VR and when DX12 and monitor tech has had time to develop.

Well, at least you have a quite powerful cooler now for future upgrade.
