MAJOR Windows memory leak

So about two weeks ago, I did a complete fresh install of Windows 8.1 because the RAM and page file leak it had got exponentially worse (from 4GB at the end of a day with nothing open to 6-7GB on startup).

 

So, two weeks into this install, I started my machine up, and BAM. 6.5GB of RAM and page file used just upon me logging in. I am at a complete loss as to what the fuck is happening. I'm hoping that you guys might be able to come up with something, because at this point I'm about ready to switch to Linux, essentially killing my YouTube channel, 90% of my Steam library, and all of my virtual machines, one of which has to be used for school.

Are you using Raptr?

just let it idle trough

it's a normal windows behavior - it's running updates and maintenance tasks in the background

it should not impact your systems overall performance, if it does then scan for malware, consider upgrading to Windows 10

Yeah... It's not though. None of that crap is set to do ANYTHING until 2 in the morning.

Just asking, I was using it when I had my old 280X and I kept running out of memory (16gb back then) and it was Raptr

maybe you can open up resource monitor and sort by committed memory?

do you have Java installed by any chance?

I do have Java installed, but it isn't even running. Like, at all.

 

As for what's using the most commited RAM, it would be Avast coming in at only 178MB.

are you sure integrated graphics is not enabled?

Yep.

 

One of my friends pointed out it could be a faulty RAM stick, which I kinda believe since it was fine after a restart, and I just threw some random cheapass kit i had for a little more.
