I was just on the Internet and as i was looking into more about stuff on SSD's, i read something about write cycles and how there is a finite of them. My question is, what is a write cycle? Before you say "look it up" please understand that i have, however, i dont really understand how it was explained so if someone could explain it for someone newer to this, that would be greatly appreciated.

A write cycle is literally when the drive writes to the memory, whatever that is(platters, NAND flash, etc). It's also when data is removed from a drive.

To be honest for a consumer grade SSD you don't even need to car about that, even if you were to ran a SSD constantly rewriting data it would still outlast pretty much any HDD you can think of. Other then server anti-vibration grade HDDs of course.

Thank You for the fast and to the point answer

how often would this be and how could i expand the longevity of my SSD?

(just so you know where i stand on it, i basically am installing mods on Skyrim and was told that i should install it all on my SSD which has about 100GB left on it, but i was wondering if it would be better to put the game and mods on my HDD instead).

The SSD is likely to last a long time. I've written so much data to my SSD and yet it's still at 100%. I have literally written ~28TB to my drive. I wouldn't sit here worrying about if the drive is going to be fine or not - it's likely to be fine with the mods installed on there.

What do you think of Skyrim save files tho? Like I remeber in the PS3 days a single save could go to 12mb in size. The number of saves Skyrim make could quickly get out of hand really.

I had Skyrim for a while stored on my SSD, along with the saves, so I know how crazy they can get. But it didn't stop me from putting them on my SSD.

do you think 100GB can hold Skyrim, and its 150ish+ mods? (the only way i could test for sure is to install them all on my HDD and then see from there, and if i could work, then re-due all of it on my SSD.

You'd have to calculate it as it depends on the mods.
