Hey,

today my friend asked me to help me with his computer. He told me that his kid was playing around the start button and now it's broken.

First thing I did was opening the PC and checking wether the power button is connected properly. (I even pulled it out and started the computer by using a wrench)

However every time I boot it up, you could hear it's HDD moving and the GPU fan started, but the CPU fan didn't.

I asked him if he ever removed RAM (picture related). But he said no.

It's an ASUS PC, but I can't find it's unique name.

Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

Picture of PC's insides (RAM missing??):

It's probably came with a single stick of RAM if it's a pre-built. As for the CPU fan, it could be dead. Try using another fan, and double check the connections.

What do you mean by connections? I unplugged everything essential and replugged it.

possibly the system could have shorted out the motherboard when the kid was constantly pressing the start button, even though the hdd spins and the gpu also, it doesnt mean the motherboard was not damaged. (worst case scenario)

by looking at the mb it seems as if it doesnt have built in memory. though its a bit blurry, it would be good to know what model it is . how old is the pc?

options:

1) if you have a spare psu try and connect it to the mb to see if that changes anything

2) if you have a space case fan attach it to the cpu header of the motherboard and see if the fan starts running dont let it keep running though this is just to test if the cpu fan is dead

if i post a link to amazon try to use the LTT affiliate code to help the channel http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=linustechtips-20

Just the fan header connections on the motherboard, sorry for the confusion. But do what @papapoi said. It does sound like something may have shorted out.
