Hi,

I want to OC my i5 6600, but i'm a total beginner so i hope you can help me.

First of all, i know there are alot of tutorials out there, i watched like 3-4 and everyone seems to do it in a different way - or use different settings.

My build is:

i5 6600 - going to cool it with a CoolerMaster Nepton 240m AiO

Crucial Ballistix Sports DDR4 - 2400mhz - using 2x4GB + 1x8GB --> 16GB

Asus Strix GTX 970 OC

ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming k4

I saw alot of youtubers increasing their dram to about 2600mhz, will this work just fine for mine too, or do i have to decrease it below 2400mhz?

I haven't installed it yet, but thats the BIOS Update: http://overclocking.guide/download/asrock-z170-gaming-k4-non-k-oc-bios/

Beside that i have another Question. I often hear people saying that some Mainboards are better, and some worse for OC - how do i know that?

I'm thankful for every answer. :)

It's called RAM Ocing. Just like CPU OCing. I'd start by always staying below 2400mhz while you test for CPU stability, and only increasing it above after you've spent quite some time with a stable OC on the CPU part.

We honestly don't know. After Haswell took over and made mobos irrelevant for OCing, we are now stuck with a serious lack of testing on Skylake.

My general rule of thumb is "have 10 or more Power phases", which yours has.
