I have heard it done before, is there any way to unlock and overclock an AMD processor if it is not a black Edition? I have an older computer and I am just trying to make a little faster to buy time for me to make enough money get a new rig.  My specs are listed below... I know that it is a low spec but I have to make do with what I have.  If anyone had any advice I would love to hear it.

Operating System  Microsoft Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

CPU     AMD Phenom X4 9650 102 °F

 RAM     4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 200MHz (4-3-3-6)

Motherboard     ASRock N68-S

Graphics ATI 4670

You can unlock it with certain (most) motherboards, even the cheap crappy ones can do it. Bear in mind the reason the cores are locked is either because A) It does not perform equally B) It's completely unstable C) It draws too much power, which may lead to VRM overheating if your motherboard has poor thermal design or not enough air flow. This is the "unlock" you're referring to (e.g. Phenom II X3 -> Phenom II X4 or 960T to hexacore.) There is no way to unlock multiplier, you will have to do it by FSB.

Based on the fact that this is a first gen phenom I'm guessing he's meaning it's not unlocked in the multiplier sense not the core sense as those old quad core phenoms don't unlock cores to six though I can't be 100% sure.

That's what I said. And the 960T Phenom is based on a 6 core architecture and unlocks into Thuban.

It's a first gen phenom, it's not one than can be unlocked to a 6 core, it's a 9650, not a 960T and it doesn't have an unlocked multiplier.

Dude are you even reading what I wrote? I KNOW it was AN EXAMPLE. I also explicitly state that it has a locked multiplier.

Define e.g. "exempli gratia":  http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/e.g.
