Back that S**t up asap! Last time I heard that sound was when my father's HDD was dying, you might just have gotten a faulty drive.

Has it been doing it since you got it? Did you buy it new?

It's just a way to compress back-ups, you could used anyother compression method or just clone it.

If you trust the seller and brand, it may have just been a 1 time fluke and you'll be fine with just keep a back up. But, it wouldn't hurt to return it in case it is a serious issue
