Red vs Green

for $300, get a 390. better and faster than the 970 in almost every case (pun intended).

Title says it all i have like a 300 (Ish) dollar budget on an old pc graphics upgrade i need to do....Would you say Red or Green? I'm thinking maybe 380x? Gtx 970?

Sapphire edition 390. From what I've heard from like, EVERYONE, it is the coolest, and quietest. I have one myself, and I never hear it running, and it hasn't gone above 74* one time. I also have it OC'd to 1125Mhz, and the  VRAM OC'd to 1600Mhz.

Asking Red or Green is like asking "Ford" or "Chevy". :)

 

Both cards are darn close in performance, with perhaps the AMD card 5-10% faster in some cases, even in performance in others.

 

The AMD card does pull almost twice the power however, which is a consideration for some people.

 

Based on power consumption and the state of drivers (not counting 3/8's rough patch), I suggest the GTX 970.  But you likely will be happy with either one.
