weird 3570k clock speed

Go to solution Solved by Samdb,

It's perfectly normal, it actually helps reduce the EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) that a clock pulse generates, causing there to be less spikes and flatter curves. It does this by changing the frequency so a certain frequency is only used for a moment, in order to reduce the interference mention above. However, this may cause your system to become unstable or could have a lower performance than you initially intended, causing clock sensitive devices to be compromised. There may also be an option called "Smart Clock Speed" which does a similar job to spread spectrum, however it turn off the SDRAM, API and AGP signal when not in use, not to mention it also favours power consumption.

hey guys. quick question for all you overclockers. im currently trying to oc my 3570k. i had stability at 4.1 with voltages around 1.12-1.13 temps were around 46 degrees idle and about 65-70 under load. (85 during prime95) well i noticed that for some reason in realtemp its showing my core speed at 4103.87.... now im somewhat new at oc. but that just doesn't seem right.... am i doing something wrong? help is much appreciated.

Software readings are not 100% correct. On top of that, clock speeds like that are 100% normal. Example: My 3570K is at 4.4GHz, but it's reading in CPU-Z is 4,423MHz.

It's normal so don't worry about it :)

It's quite normal to have those kind of numbers, but if it starts to go near or over 10Mhz mark from what you have set in bios, you might want to consider turning "spread spectrum" off if you haven't allready done so :)

The clock speed is normal but those temps are nuts, I would be remounting that cooler. at 1.272V my 3570k @ 4.5ghz only hit 86c on the hottest core after 4 hours of prime with a Coolermaster Hyper 212 evo. Your temps shouldn't be that high with a h100i at those volts.

i5-3570k @ 4.4ghz (1.240v) || Asrock extreme 4 || CM Hyper 212 evo

Samsung 840 || WD blue 1tb || WD green 1tb || Powercolor 7870 xt @ (1200 mhz core : 1500 mhz mem)

Powered by a silverstone strider 500w psu in a NZXT 210.
