I know someone who has two 590's for sale for 600 us dollars... should i do it?

I don't really know how a 590 performs, however i can say that 4 way scaling is not very good, so i would probably say no and get a 780 instead.

You would get pretty nice performance, but honestly I think the cons outweigh that, so I would get something newer.

Cons: Bad scaling, outdated by several generations, it's used (I'm guessing?), lots of heat, lots of power usage, possibly lots of noise, bad game optimization etc. etc.

EDIT: Just get a 780 for the price, a single 780 performs over 2x as well as a single 590. Adding a second 590 definitely won't double your performance. So 780 100%, you won't have to deal with the issues above ^

if he sells it to you for $300 still don't buy it 4 way scales horribly.

From most benchmarks I have seen, it is somewhat linear. Anywhere from 75% to 90% per GPU. Usually going lower as more are added, but 75% is still kind of a lot.

HD 7990 are very cheap now, it will deliver even better performance than Quad-SLI GTX 580. A single GTX 780 is also a viable option, it has lower power consumption and it looks so awesome with that reference cooler, however in terms of performance the HD7990 wins.

I wouldn't buy it. A bit of an old card for that ultra hi-end segment. If you can, get a 7990, for simmilar, yet much more stable, less power-hungry and cooler experience :)

If you really need one, that is.

Oh, K, didn't know that... Phew...

So like always, the standard mantra on the forum for the last couple of months: wait for the 9000 series (R9), and se what it will bring to the table (at least lower prices to currently available cards) :)

HD 7950 is faster than GTX 590 so no it's a huge waste of money. Unless you can get a 590 for under $200 it's money wasted. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/powercolor_radeon_hd_7950_pcs_review,24.html

Yes, the 7950, like the 7970 scores some impressive 3dMark points when OC'd. Can't beat an OC scale on 7900 series :)

But that it acually performs better than a 590 I didn't know... you learn something every day... :) Although It's only marginal, it's amazing in itself, is still uses far less power and produces less heat.
