GTX 780 Ti SLI vs GTX 980 Ti

Guest

Will 2 Strix 780 Ti's outperform a 980 Ti at 1080P in graphically intensive games like GTA V and The Witcher 3? And is $430 USD a good price for 2 of them?

No. 780tis are ridiculously overpriced by how limited stock is of them btw. Plus eh, they're not a very new card and the 970 is a cheaper and much better option if you want something similar for sli. Though sli is pointless with the 970s when a 980ti easily outperforms them with similar price.

1 better gpu > 2 lower GPUs

go for the 980ti!

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

I can't afford a 980 Ti - my budget is 430!

How'd you think you're going to get two of em' then? Go get a 970 or wait for the new cards coming out probably sometime in may if the leaks would be correct. Don't quote me on that one.

Or, you know, you can read the whole topic that states that he found 2 for a total of $430

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Then why did you ask? If your only choice is 2x 780ti then go for it...

GTX 780 tis will perform better in SLI... On paper.

But there are several caveats to doing this including:

1. SLI is buggy and doesn't work with every game

2. a 3GB VRAM buffer is going to be a very big limit and may outweigh the entire reason of going SLI

3. You would likely need a better power supply

4. You GPUs would be last-gen

I reccomend going with the 980 ti. It may not perform better but you wouldn't

t have to deal with any of the crap above, not to mention the 980 ti has 6GB of GDDR5 vs 3GB.

I can't get a 980 Ti, I will count on DX12 stacking, and even if all else fails, I can definitely resell 2 used 780 Tis for more than 430. I am moving to Europe so I can't wait for pascal because stuff is expensive in Europe. Also do you know if STRIX cards are reference PCBs?

That seems really low. Were they abused (heavily OCed or otherwise)? In general I wouldn't recommend SLI simply because it's super inconsistent performance wise. SLI 780 Tis will perform similarly to SLI 970s, but are older and will receive less attention from nvidia in terms of driver support. Waiting until Pascal or Polaris would probably be a better options for two reasons: 1. There might be some crazy price to performance ratio on the new cards, 2. The existing cards should drop in price making that single 980 Ti a much more affordable option.

You can generally trust what I say (I hope), and I certainly won't try to mislead you. I have a fair amount of experience with a range of hardware and software and am always willing to lend a hand if asked.
