As the title stated my computer has a super slow boot. 5+ minutes. It comes up with the gigabyte splash screen and sits there a few minutes. It goes black another minute. Then it gets to the windows 10 loading screen with the windows logo and spinning circles. The circles look like a slide show. They pop in one at a time every 10-15 seconds. Once it loads windows and it gets to the windows login screen the computer runs normally. This problem has occurred for months. For about a week in the middle of this it would boot up from cold start with no hiccup but has since obviously continued to be slow.

Might be due to a program you installed or a virus. Run a virus scan, perhaps check the startup programs list in task manager.

(I recommend Avast and Malwarebytes. Scan with both)

Also, is your SSD your boot drive? Can't hurt to check.

It should have the windows logo icon like the drive that's in this picture:

Check for virus if that doesnt help do a clean re-install of windows and put it on the ssd if you didnt already do that.

I have done virus scans, with malware bytes and windows defender or whatever it's called in win10. They both came up clean. Also the SSD is the boot drive and it has the OS installed on it.

So far it looks like a clean re-install is the most recommended.

I'll re-run antivirus software once I am home and then I'll clear some space on the SSD and see if that helps. If not I'll do a fresh install.

I may need to post a new thread but I've only done a clean install once before on this PC. I bought the parts and had Tiger Direct put them together and set it up. What's the best way to clean install  Windows 10? Also will I need to re download all my programs or can I just move any from the SSD to one of the other drives and then use them again once the PC is back up?

Just got home and now it won't even start up. Great. I flipped the PSU off and then on and the mobo onboard power button (which turns orange when it has power) lit up and then turned off in about half a second. I unplugged the PSU from the power strip and plugged it straight into the wall. Once I did that the button flashed on and off again. I tried flipping the PSU off and on again and the same thing power button lit up and then turned off.

Now this turned into another problem. Gonna check on the PSU then the mobo.

When did you start having this problem ? Think of what has changed in your config in any way. You really shouldn't be letting this problem bothering you for months.

My guess would be either some settings in the motherboard you f-ed up,because of the overclocking you did, or some dying peripheral its trying to initiate at boot (which could also be one of your data drives). The way to troubleshoot this is to boot with the bare minimum (also without the data drives) and see if the problem still persists.

For your not starting up problem, check both the connections and also the motherboard standoffs. There is this thread to help you with that:

Best way to clean install is

1. Get your date safe.

2. Make sure you have your program keys to re-install them. You can grab them from your pc with something like Belarc security advisor.

3. Make a list of programs you wish to keep for future reference

4. Clear SSD of all data and format again (you can do this within the installer)

5. Re-install. (remember there are things like Ninite.com for programs you use a lot.

So yes, re-install all programs. This sort of clean install is healthy to do once in a while. If you have reinstalled everything you have once again a clean system ,which you could backup entirely, depending on your preference

  • 4 weeks later...

Here's a very late update to this thread. My computer works again...for now. I got the Motherboard back from RMA with Gigabyte and it powered on right away. I'm now preparing for format and clean install.

I appreciate all the help you all gave. If I need any help in the future I will definitely turn to these forums. THANKS
