Okay, I got a question about hard drives. I'm a noob to all the PC terms but I know a fair bit.

My 6 year old laptop, HP G62-456tu's motherboard failed last night, and on that hard drive was Photoshop, Sony Vegas, Lightroom, other Adobe Apps, photos, music and videos. I'm thinking of building a new PC and if I remove that HDD and plug it into the new system, will it have the data. If so, can you please explain how to do it. BTW there was only one drive and it is a WD3200BEVT and its 2.5". I'm sure that it connected from a SATA cable.

Thanks

Yes you can just connect it to the new system.  Windows will most probably not work though but you can access it as a spare drive.

Hey there :)

My two cents on this:

- Your data will still be on your drive and you can access it without any trouble when you connect your WD Scorpio Blue to the new system internally or externally.

- You won't be able to run your OS or any of your applications due to the different hardware and the different drivers needed for that hardware. You would need to reinstall your OS and all the applications and games with it due to the new registry. I'd strongly suggest keeping a backup of your data and try to retain your Keys from your applications so you can reinstall them.

- Since you will be reusing this drive I would also recommend checking its health so you are on the safe side that it's safe to store your data. I would recommend running WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests.
