Network live check

Me and my mate both have home servers, on separate internet connections, and i was thinking of setting up some sort of "heart beat" check where if one of our networks went offline (e.g failed ping) then an email would be sent to either him or myself depending on who's network is offline. Any software suggestions.

 

(we both use Gmail for our email providers) Both networks are live 24/7 and both our servers are on 24/7
