I am planning a build and want to know if I should get a 980ti water cooled block or air cooled. the water cooled block will be a nuisance but one I am willing to endure if my pc can perform better. But the issue is , is it even necessary? My room will be AC to 22C and noise isn't a problem for me. Please tell me if I should use an air cooled 980ti or a water cooled one. I am going to use 2 980ti in sli so factor that in too please.

If your doing SLI you will get much cooler temps with 2 watercooled cards, but is it nessacerry? Not really if you have good enough air flow in your case.

EDIT: Are you looking at custom watercooling or a hybrid card by someone like EVGA?

My room is way cooler than 22C without AC (I hate being hot, thankfully I live in England). I have a water cooled CPU and my next GPU purchase will likely be water cooled, too.

It's not necessary, but it's cooler and quieter (if you set it all up properly).

I am going to use master case pro 5 and with the air blocks there will be adequate air flow. But I am worried about heating up because rendering can take upto 24hours (on a solid build) and the cpu and cpu would be at 100% for the 24hours.

less than 22C what are you an ice cube? Anyways, noise isn't an issue but the heat is, so do you recommend the water cooled cpu because 2 120mm rads are going to make cable management hell and I will have to give up HDD bays

If you have adequate air flow (which that case does) your cards will reach a state of equillibrium where they get to a certain temperature and stay there, this will happen with water too but with water that temperature will be a bit lower.

But your cards will be absoloutely fine operating 24/7 at any temperature lower than 92DC which if you use a non-refrence cooler and have good airflow, will be acheiveable on air.

EDIT: Should be achievable on stock air cooler but temps will be a bit higher than non refrence.

Thanks then mate, you were quite helpful.

I don't have a thermometer in here but the one on my fridge says the kitchen is currently 17C and it's no cooler in there than it is in here. Seriously, anything over ~25C outside and I can't cope, I'm too English :P

There are some great air cooling options, such as the Noctua NH-D15, which will outperform most (any?) 120mm AIO cooler.

I wish I could agree twice, for both the cooler and being a fellow brit who hates overly hot days

When I was a student, electricity was included in our rent, I got an old AC machine free from work and was like a pig in mud with it on full blast 24/7.

Sadly, I no longer have an unlimited supply of electricity :( .

I'm another Brit who thinks the weather has no business being above 25C, and that frankly, it's being inconsiderate if it reaches 22C. I'm not a lizard, my body generates it's own heat.

Back on topic, I'd be temped to go with the water-cooled card on top, as the top card can struggle for air in an SLI setup, and an air cooled card at the bottom to avoid messiness of  3 AIO rads and tubes.

Man, how I wished my electricity bills were included in rent, right now I think who ever governs the prices of electricity expects you to sell an organ or something if your a student who can't get a job. But that does sound glorious, 24/7 AC.... A man can dream I guess.

Precisely, I eat food, I get heat in return. I only need enough external heat as not to die of hypothermia.

I like your suggestion, however I'd even consider an NH-D15 to cool the CPU, an air cooler GPU on the bottom and an AIO GPU on the top. That way you still get fantastic cooling to the CPU and both GPUs, but only have to deal with one AIO.

It was a wonderful time in life... Sadly, all good things come to an end.

Eugh...I think I'd melt. I went to Egpyt once; beautiful Pyramids, awful weather. According to the BBC, it's a delightful 5C outside here, lovely :) .

Yes, unfortunately you are right, in my final year so got to go out and into the big world  of work soon, not looking forward to that.
