So just out of interest, I had a look at some prebuild NAS. And I found this model:

WD My Cloud Mirror Gen 2 8TB

So now, I know that those disks are arranged in Raid 1, but if they are that would mean that only 4 TB out of those 8TB are usable???

Is that true? What kind of black magic would permit to fully use those 8TB or is it just false advertisement?

Nope. This is not false advertizement. They are only stating that there is 8tb of raw storage. If you wanted to, you could set a raid0 and get he full 8tb.

Well I would argue that if an uniformed costumer wishes to have 8TB of storage and only ends up with 4, he might be a bit frustrated right? No true, it is not false advertisement but it is kind of omitting an important fact!

Since it's not likely to be false advertising(they are giving you 8TB of storage. Now, how that's arranged is up to them), they can omit the information. I don't think it's a requirement to state that it's in a RAID config, if it is. But I expect WD to let you change it.
