OLD vs NEW

So guys I have a t420s with a i7 2640m and NVIDIA NVS 4200M (1GB VRAM). my cpu is a little better than a 6th gen i5 6200u. I am looking for a laptop that has about the same size as my t420s but has a better cpu and gpu. It will be a plus if I can use it to make drawings, since I do many projects where I have to make sketches of ideas.

 

(I think it is amazing that this laptop still can beat new laptops)

 

And yes Lenovo does not have any information about this version of the t420s and they say the highest cpu you can have in this model is a i7 2620m and only intel hd 3300.

Laptop's are more expensive, and deliver worse performance than a desktop.

I have a desktop with a i7 4770k and when the new top model from nvidia or amd comes out it will have that in it.

nah the 780 ti is more like a 390x/980

780 Ti is similar to a 290
7950 is a 280

Nah, Nvidia gimped the drivers far too much for Kepler to hold a candle to a 390X or 980 since in one game it got beat by a 960 somehow.

As for a laptop - well. I'd probably suggest The GL552VW (Aluminum one) as it has a good and accurate screen for graphics design work

Dell has some stuff with i7 and touch-screen but i dont know about GPU. You can take a look at an older versin with gen4 i7 (gen4 =gen 6 is only marketing thing) touch. the news models are pretty expensives stuff.

oh and gpu are from intel. maybe is better to take one with regular screen

XPS are pretty good but aren't cheap. inspiron are just ok. i had a xps but it had i7 gen2 and it was everything ok

yoga from lenovo just came in my minde, it is another option 

and zenbook from asus but those are more for work

The biggest problem I have with the yoga line up is that people say they are badly built. I don't think Asus support has gotten any better since I had a Asus.

It is your call anyway  there was a time when I was whishing for gaming laptop with touch-screen and after 5 weeks I found some but those where really expensive. I'm looking for a laptop for programing and for lite gaming and I found something pretty ok as price and specs but I'm w8ing for more opinions from users on this forum with another options  and after I'll make the decision.

I think the laptop marked are getting more and more narrow and if you need more things than a mainstream consumer you are going to have a hard time.

yeah that is true ..........  will be very nice if every producer starts to make components opmized for major IT and programing areas, but this dream is far away

There were a time where something like that was going on, where it was easy to find a laptop that had the things you needed even if your needs were very special, but now  you have to look really hard to find one and when you find the one expect it to cost a lot of money.
