Computer slowing other computers down?

saxguy67

I had someone bring their computer over to my house, and when ever they turned it on and used it, it slowed all the other computers down. Two computers would get 30mbps, but when this computer would turn on, (wireless or wired), we would all get less than 2mbps. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

scan for malware.  often times it's either calling home, or downloading/uploading something malicious.  Had the same problem with my brother's laptop.

Is his PC the only one on a wired connection?

Set up QoS on the router?

what do you mean by QoS? This problem both occurs at my house and at his house, and we've tried different connection types.

use netstat -a in the command prompt of that pc and look at your open ports.  If there are ones listing as "ESTABLISHED", look up what they are online.  Another thing you could try is using Wireshark to see what kind of traffic is running on the network.

QoS = Quality of service.

Usually determined by a piece of software which "decides" what packets get priority on your bandwidth.

A more in-depth analysis starts here :-

So we did this, and right now it says there are 13+ established ports, when you say look up what they are online, what would we look up?

port numbers.  Look them up and see if any are malware related.

none of the established ports match any of these. there are some that dont have any numbers, is there any way to check those ports, or are they already safe?

I will happily analyze it for you, but unfortunately I don't have time today.  I'm studying for a 4 hour exam I have at 5pm and don't have very much free time at the moment.  I'll be able to help you tomorrow though.

Nothing is showing up for me to look at (at least on the mobile site)

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:

I took it down. I would rather just have someone tell me how to do it so I don't give out any ip addresses or anything. Just for safety.

If you run wireshark I'll analyze the dump for you and try to figure out the issue. Also what browser are you using? Try opening task manager and killing any processes related to your browser, some time extensions installed in browsers can cause issues like these (such as hola)
