Getting around vpn network restrictions

Hey, so i go to a boarding school and  i rely very heavily on the internet that the school which i go to provides. They had blocked a whole lot of things my solution was easy, download a vpn and no questions where asked. Recently they have been upgrading the whole thing and they have been putting some new software on the system that can do a whole lot more blocking certain websites and one of those things is they have managed to block vpns. They now have to do this to pass all the regulations set upon the school etc. i need to find a way of getting around this does any one have any ideas. i don't have a problem with the restrictions them selves my main problem is they are monitoring all my usage and some of the teachers are getting pissed that i am staying up till 1AM on YouTube etc does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this i have tried tonnes of VPN and i don't want to use TOR even if it does work if i get caught with that ill get in a lot of trouble. My computing technicians quite like me and don't really care what i do to get around it, so its not like i'll get in that much trouble for it.

airVPN.org has never failed me. Still works even for Netflix.

BTW, using a VPN that doesn't specifically encrypt the whole connection, headers included, won't save you from them spying on you. If it's not a very respectable VPN provider, you're probably not secure.

It depends what blocking they've put in place - if they're nullrouting GRE traffic well then you're pretty much up a creek. You may be able to RDC into a box outside of the network and use that instead.

How terribly unreasonable of them; the injustice...

Even if you manage to hide what you're doing on their connection (a key point here), I don't think you'll be able to hide when you're doing it. They'll still know that you're up at 1AM (or any other time), messing about on the internet.

DNS/ICMP tunnelling is another option. No matter how restrictive the network is it's unlikely they will be blocking DNS traffic.

Although, this may be slow so try other options first :)

My advice is pay more attention on your schooling, if you work really hard you might be able to graduate early and be able to buy your own internet. Trying to bypass restrictions put in place on a network you do not own or pay for is a REALLY bad idea. Unless your goal is to get kicked out of said school, then that might work and then you'll be free of said restrictions.

No offence but couldn't you just ask them then?

Since they manage the network they would know better than anyone here.

yea i have tried but they have a lot of restrictions regulated by external people to prevent things such as bullying and allowing students from accessing inappropriate material and if they don't follow the regulations then they will not be allowed to give any internet connection to the pupils. So they wont actually help me but they aren't going to necessarily going to stop me, provided i don't do anything stupid!!!

For me it was instant. I subscribed for three months paying with a credit card, downloaded the software, set it up and by the time I tried a connection for the first time, it worked like clockwork. It was easy as pie on all three of my computers and only a tiny bit trickier on my android phone. Sorry. I can't help you much further myself. The staff on their forum looks to be quite active and the community much like ours here. If you take it up with them, I'll bet you'll get a swift fix.

Edit: Just a note here, I'm currently on my third three-month stretch of using it. I subscribe to it periodically because the whole thing will be a waste for me if Netflix cracks it.
