Hello there,

My main monitor is a 1080p monitor that's connected to my computer using DVI, the only connection that's availble on that monitor.

Since GTA V is coming out, I have a reason to dust off my ps3 and play a game on it again, but I don't like playing in front of a TV anymore, so I'd like to connect the ps3 to my monitor. But my monitor does not have HDMI and doesn't have built-in speakers. Is there a way to "split" the DVI connection (I only have one at the monitor) so I can connect both my pc and the ps3 to it, and the ability to choose what input to use? And then a hdmi to dvi-converter that also has an audio output on it so I can connect headphones or speakers to it, since I need sound obviously?

I've tried making a sketch in paint for clarification:

Also, if this is possible, will my monitor (when using the pc) have any more input lag because it goes trough that switch?

Thanks!

I don't think such a switch exists.

If you had HDMI on the monitor than you could get this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009CHRLOA/ref=asc_df_B009CHRLOA2646534?smid=A1IZYUD9B8EI1C&tag=nextagusmp0357663-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B009CHRLOA

But I can't find anything with DVI/HDMI in and DVI out.

With that you can maybe get a HDMI to DVI adapter for the monitor than plug your PC and PS3 into the switch.

Does the speakers use a 3,5 mm connector?

If so you can use the stock RCA cables that came with the PS3 and adapt them to 3,5 mm(a adapter like this: http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-Plug-Dual-Adapter/dp/B0002KR5Q0)

And then use a DVI-splitter like this: http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-2x1-Enhanced-Powered-Switch/dp/B001TKPMZ8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1379268487&sr=1-1&keywords=dvi+switch

You'll also need a HDMI-DVI cable

I think I'll just manually change the dvi cables when choosing between pc or ps3 usage, since I don't want to spend too much.

So the hdmi to dvi cable outputs the display and the other output in the ps3 for audio only?

Yes but you'll have to configure the PS3 to output the audio to the RCA plugs.
