Fab filter material to cut my own filters?

I have a bunch of different sized fans and fan grills in my system so I was thinking it would be cheaper and easier to just cut my own. Any thoughts? A link to wear I can buy the material would be great.

Tights/stockings. 

Most meshes that you can buy are too open to be of any use, but creating frames of the size you need out of something like wire, then using stockings stretched over it actually works. 

EDIT: Super cheap as well. Possibly free, depending on your access to such clothing articles.

I personally use super fine mosquito or No See-um mesh (20 x20) for screen doors or windows and magnetic strips along the edges if I need custom filters. Demci-flex also can make custom PC filters to any size.
