Hi, my name is Sammy and recently i have ran into a problem. a couple of months ago my computer started to randomly shutoff even when i wasn't doing anything demanding like playing a game or running a benchmark just browsing the web. i did some research and couldn't find anything helpful, at first i thought it would be a overheating problem but my CPU runs at 34c and my GPU at 55c on standby. I built my PC 4 years ago i thought i might need to replace the thermal paste so when i opened up my case and took the fan off the paste was pretty dry but not enough to damage it in my opinion but i replaced it and added 2 new fans to increases the air flow which i thought would fix it but a couple days later it happens again when i was watching YouTube. At this point i don't believe its hardware other than it might be my PSU  but other than that nothing comes to mind, here is my setup list

CPU: Intel core 17 4770

Motherbored: MSI Z87-G45 gaming

RAM: DDR3 24GB 3899.1MHz Corsair

GPU: Geforce GTX 980Ti OC

HDD:1 TB

SSD: 500 GB Samsung

Case:  Carbide Series® 400R Mid-Tower Case

PSU:  Corsair 860W 80+ Platinum Certified

please contact me if you know what i can do and it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I´ve had something similar at one time with a PC. Random reboot even when the PC wasn´t under load. There´s a high chance that your PSU is the issue, I´d consider to exchange it.

assuming you're not overclocked, if you are, turn them off (CPU & GPU)

then i'd test the following in this order

Power Supply

Motherboard

Processor

Unfortunately, no real way to test and prove which one is wrong without spending some $$$, unless you've got spare parts lying around

the answer in my opinion all depends on the shut down ,, is it  shutting down ,, or just   completely losing power   all the sudden?

if its completely blacking out ,,,, maybe  its the power supply  or motherboard even ,,, could be a bios issue ,,,, i dont think anyone ever  looks at this but   check and make sure your cmos battery is  in  place and tight ,, it could be a number of things.

but I am also leaning towards the power supply ,,,  or it could be a overheating issue  ,, if the processor heat sink isn.t efficient enough or  not seated correctly ,,, there's a  lot of things to check really.

It's not a overheating problem because at most it gets 80c when running full load, I'll look into the PSU and replace it and see if its that. Do you gave any suggestions if what power supply o should get? Thank you

The power just go's out no lights or warning

I mean, if you notice the lights in the room flickering. If they do, that might be an indication as to why your computer suddenly is powering off; Power surges.

Jayz2cents just put out a video on this very subject a day ago , what a coincodence ,,

now  if you are going to replace  the power supply everyones going to tell you different , you should make sure its the motherboard first though. but your power supply  is a good brand  if it turns out to be the power supply   the warranty should still be good on that. soo rma and get a replacement.  id recommend what you have now.
