You really don't need it. The air goes through rads and it won't be hot enough that it would drastically affect temps for other components.

Trying to find a case supporting 1 rear 140mm exhaust, with a 280mm radiator front mounted with a 140mm fan above that, but do I even need that extra fan? I thought the define S since I can close the top but if I use a 280mm rad I can only use a 80mm top front mounted fan.. What do I do?

Not sure what I've read, even though I tried three times. But let me try. I'm building a system w/ define s and I don't understand what's the problem, you can mount 360mm rad in the front. Your 280mm is less than that.

If you really think you need an extra fan, you can get a 120mm one. But the fans from rad mount will provide enough airflow. Or you can add 2 more fans for push-pull configuration if you think you really need leafblower amount of airflow.

I have a 120 and a 280 on the front, a 120 at the bottom, and a 140 at the back

Why bother with another 140mm fan? It won't make much difference and you're going to need a massive case to fit a 280mm radiator and an additional 140mm fan in the front.

If you want more air coming into a Define S, there's always the fan mount on the bottom of the case (which is dust filtered).

well if I don't need the 140mm I could use alot more cases probably. Any tests on this maybe?

going to use R5 then, any tests on this?

The define S is the same as R5, just stripped down, so there is no front drive bays. But these drive bays will block the front-mounted rad, if you'll be able to put it there at all. Usually people remove these bays altogether, at which point the R5 is worse than the define S. The only big issue I can see with define S is if you need more than 2x 2.5" drive mounts and 3x 3.5" mounts, but these setups are rare and if you want to do this, you should really be thinking about nas. Also, to utilize 5.25" front bay, you would need to have the case door open, but I believe that's the issue with both models. Personally, I prefer the define S over R5, just because it looks clean and it has a lot of place for mounting vents or rads.
