Hey guys! I am so close to reaching my funds goal for my upcoming rig and while running thought to clarify all the components I felt concerned about the PSU Wattage I originally planned to use.

here's my proposed specs:

-i7 3770k (will be running at around 4ghz approx)

-EVGA gtx 680 classified in SLI

-16gb Corsair Platinum 1866mhz

-Corsair h100i

-1 SSD

-1 7200rpm HDD

-1 Blu Ray drive

-7 high performance case fans

Those are really the only components worth mentioning, I planned to run these off a Corsair 860i but the SLI'd classifieds and OC'd i7 has me worried. I was thinking about buying the 1200i instead should the 860i be insufficient as I'm adamant about sticking with corsair as I like to keep with the overall corsair theme. However over here in England it's about £60 more (~$90 us) which means postponing my build a little longer. I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks as power supplies is the area where my knowledge fall short. So, is an 860i adequate?

You should be perfectly fine with an 860W psu, especially given that it's a high quality unit like an 860i. My system (3930k @ 4.5GHz, single 680, raid card, 4 hdd's, one ssd, sound card, h100, 6 noctua's) draws about 450W at load (220 from the cpu, 190ish from the gpu, and the rest from other components), so you should be more than fine with a 3770k OC'd and 2x680's on 860W

Also for what it's worth I have an ax750 (gold, non-"i" series, older model) from Corsair.

Workstation: 3930k @ 4.3GHz under an H100 - 4x8GB ram - infiniband HCA  - xonar essence stx - gtx 680 - sabretooth x79 - corsair C70 Server: i7 3770k (don't ask) - lsi-9260-4i used as an HBA - 6x3TB WD red (raidz2) - crucia m4's (60gb (ZIL, L2ARC), 120gb (OS)) - 4X8GB ram - infiniband HCA - define mini  Goodies: Røde podcaster w/ boom & shock mount - 3x1080p ips panels (NEC monitors for life) - k90 - g9x - sp2500's - HD598's - kvm switch

Go for something around 800-1000 watts most people would way its a little overkill and it is a bit but your are not supposed to run your power supply at under 20% load and over 80%. In between this you will get maximum efficiency on your PSU.

700w will be more than sufficient for 2 way SLI. You'll be maxing out about 550ish, possibly lower. Aside from that, is this build for gaming? If so that RAM is a complete waste of money. I understand if you want Dominator because of the aesthetics but you don't need 1866. You won't notice the difference in gaming between 1866 and 1600.

When I bought my ram the price difference of a 1866 kit vs a 1600 kit was 2 dollars.. So if he can get better performance for basically free, why not
