I had a previous post i made on this but i dont think people quite know what i want to do so ill try and re-word it in this one :D

I wanted to have a go at the dual CPU rig that was featured in a video not so long back on LTT channel. Except im not really after gaming performance, More after video rendering and/or video streaming and recording PC.

I have had a look at mutliple dual CPU socket motherboards come across this one.

--> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SuperMicro-Super-X7DCL-I-Dual-CPU-Server-Motherboard-X7DCL-I-YI001-/252014781841?hash=item3aad406591:g:rpAAAOxyTMdTK3hB

It is DDR2 but im not sure which DDR2 would be the best for that motherboard and my application.

I also know nothing about graphics cards so would i be able to add at least 1 GPU to it to help with video rendering.

And then what CPU do i use with this motherboard, It is an LGA 771 socket i believe.

Main goal is cheapest build it can be, and be at least quicker at rendering a 30 min 1080p 60fps video than my current gaming pc can which is around an hour or so.

Many thanks

For that motherboard it will support any Intel 5400/5300/5200/5100 series chips, and for ram you would need registered ecc ddr2 make sure it isn't fbdddr2 because those are not compatible. As for the processor something like the x5450, or any quad core at at least 3.0GHz are decent processors, but they are probably not going to do better then 8320 that you mentioned that you have in another post since the two processors combined preform about the same as that.

I you are looking for a drastic increase in cpu power something like the e5 2670 which has 8 cores and is hyperthreaded.

 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-CPU-E5-2670-SR0KX-2-60GHz-Eight-Core-LGA2011-20MB-CPU-Processor-QTY-1-/262118101167?hash=item3d0774d0af:g:pdwAAOSw~bFWMpH3

It would be a better option but the mobos needed cost around $200 US, it is not as cheap as the LGA 771 option, but it will definitely give you the two times improvement in cpu performance that you are looking for assuming that the programs you are using are multi-threaded.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

Okay thanks for the info, Cleared alot of questions i had actually :D

Yeah i was curious about have 2 quad cores being the same as an 8 core. I didn't know whether they would work better together than one single one. Ill definitely think about the e5 2670 though because its pretty cheap considering what you actually get.

As for rendering video it should do better than my current setup, how much better than my 8 core im not sure but should defiantly be better.

Thanks again for the info, Ill leave the thread open so that anyone else can have their input about what i should use :D
