Where should I upgrade?

Hi there!

 

My current build consists of:

• Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 MOBO
• 8GB Corsair Venegance Single-slot RAM (from a 2x8gb kit)
• AMD FX-6350 CPU
• Hyper 212 Evo Cooler
• AMD R9 270 Club3D Edition GPU (2GB)
• 650W (or 750, forgot) PSU
• BitFenix Prodigy M CASE (no optical drive (space needed for GPU)

My question is - I want to better my overall performance in games, but I don't know what part/parts to upgrade. I have my top TV (1360x768) on HDMI and bottom Monitor (1366x768) on DVI-D (from GPU) to VGA. Crap I know, and I do plan on maybe going dual-monitor 1920x1080 in the future, when I save enough to buy two decent 1080p monitors.

I play Minecraft semi-regularly (modpacks, not vanilla) and get fluctuating FPS (on medium-sized modpacks) of 30-60fps. I've just started playing The Division on medium settings at around 60fps. I have plenty more games to play, but want to enjoy them with their best performance.

 

What would be the first thing to upgrade? I've been told to upgrade to an XFX R9 380 DD, but no better as it will bottleneck from CPU. I've got a budget of around (no higher than) £180. Do I need to upgrade multiple components?

A R9 380 would be indeed a decent upgrade for your system. Your CPU wouldn´t be much of a problem here no worries.

Well IMHO I´d either buy a MSI or a Sapphire R9 380. Rock solid 1080p choice with 4GB VRAM. The rest of your system will do just fine for gaming only as long as your not going in to CPU heavy titles such as Arma III, WoW or such.

Considering the low resolutuon, you dont need as much gpu horsepower compared to cpu. I'd get a cheap 4 dimm lga1150 board and an i5-4590 and call it a day. Your single threaded CPU performance is really holding you back.
