Hey guys I'm buying the Nikon D3300 and I'm gunna need a Tripod, Slider, and Fluid Head.

Can I get your recommendations for these Please?:)

I've never bought these before, so what do I need to know? I'm pretty sure you have to have a special tripod to be able to mount a new head correct? what about a slider?

Thank you In advance!

Do you have a budget?

For a tripod head I can 100000% recommend the manfrotto mv500ah, and honestly some cheap manfrotto legs while you are at it

also check out benro, who do some decent budget fluid heads and legs

For a slider, something like the glidegear is about as cheap as you can go for decent quality, I am using a super budget slider that cost me £50 and its appaling, very hard to get smooth pans - the more you can spend the better

but really it depends what you can spend

and what sort of quality you want and quite possible what sort of future expandability you might wish.

When considering a tripod:

  • head has to be able to support the weight of camera + accessories
  • legs has to support head + camera + accessories
  • risky to put a 1kg head + 4kg camera on a leg that only supports 4kg
  • also it looks weird to put a tripod head with a wide diameter base on a narrow diameter tripod

If you're a bit of a DIY person, you can try making a slider/dolly out of a skateboard or skateboard wheels.

Very true, lots of videos on the web showing you how to do this too, you could even buy a cheapo slider and modify it etc
