I was going through a few of FX versions of AMD Processors and found speeds of upto 5Ghz which are mindblowing with octa core processors , but i hear that its very Raw and takes alot of power , compared to this the intel i5-6400 has only 2.7Ghz and consumes only 95W, but i am forced to go with intel as most motherboards for the amd processors dont have M.2 with PCIe support to make it future proof. I want to edit and play high end games for atleast the next 5 years , will the intel i5 - 6400 be sufficient along with 16GB DDR4 on an Z-170P asus motherboard and a Asus STRIX GTX-960 4GB DDR5 and a 256 GB SATA3 SSD .If so , for these specifications please suggest a PSU which is reliable and cost effiecient. Any suggestions are welcome. Cheers.

A computer is more futureproof with a good CPU and GPU than a m.2 slot. I would rather have a fast CPU/GPU than a fast boot. Whats your budget? I will put together a build, also the FX series is quite old and each year AMD overclocks them and releases them again under a different name.

The i5-6400 outperforms any FX chip, I'd get an R9 380/380x unless you need cuda. As for the PSU, an EVGA G2 600w would be good.

playing high end games with a 6400+960 for 5 years is do-able, if its in 1080p and u scale the settings down for playable framerate :D

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

That is true , the SSD would do the booting job for me anyways. My budget would be $800 for the entire set up , thanks alot for the info and i look forward to hearing back from you soon.

The R9 380 costs a bit more than the Asus strix 4GB GDDR5 . So why still go with the R9?

A bit adds a surprising amount of performance, here's a link to one that shouldn't be that much more expensive. www.dealzon.com/buy/xfx-radeon-r9-380?drc=linustechtips

I read the user reviews and most were complaining about crashing displays and too much noise by the fan. I think that is an issue to look into first.

I could boot the operating systems from a PenDrive thats not an issue, i can save a little there. Overall otherwise its really cost efficient. It includes monitor , which i am getting the  DELL S2240L 21.5 IN LED monitor , which is quite the interesting monitor.

$139.08 , I converted it from INR to USD and thats the price. Peripherals i already own. So compensating for the OS i can get this monitor. The prices on the Indian online markets are soo much more expensive for the motherboards and graphic cards , its really hard to crunch it into budget.

you can drop the OS and get a 380 instead of 380x to closer match your $800 budget
