are you or someone in your house downloading something? are you hardwired?, other wise this is odd, as even if you are promised 50/50 you usually get 50/30 or so as most people only really need a good download and the service providers know this. if no one is doing anything, restart the modem / router / access point. if that isn't the problem contact the isp.

No one was downloading anything. What do you mean by hardwired? I've been having this problem for a while. It's not new, I just thought to ask about it today.

what i mean by hardwired is are you on wifi? or are you on a Ethernet cable. if you have been having the issue for a while and restarting the hardware does not help, then you just need to contact the isp. the problem is most contracts say " we can offer you 50/50 * " and that small asterisk is a at most 50/50 not a guaranteed, but just telling you that they will "try" to give it to you. the flip side to that is "usually" they cut the costs by downing the upload not the download.

I'm on powerline ethernet.

Yeah, then the only thing you can do is contact the isp. they will probably say they cant do anything, and if you pester them enough they will send someone out to check the wires out, if that is worth it for you do it.

Ok, I'll probably just leave it as is. I think it might be the powerline. I did a speedtest directly connected to the router via ethernet and got 56/50. Maybe I'll consider trying a different powerline kit, but I'll probably just do nothing.

This is what is called hardwired, sorry that i didn't clearifiy before.

Powerline performance varies. Ethernet cables are the most stabile.

You are likely really capping your performance as verizon tends to over provision slightly.

e.g., I have a 75/75 plan, but I typically get a little more, and upload is always faster than download with them.

Other than that, you may want to see if you may be able to use a different outlet. Power line adapters take a speed penalty if they are connected to a circuit on the other side of the circuit breaker panel, or if the adapter is on a circuit with other devices that are not very EMC compliant.
