Hello,

I, like many of you I assume, have multiple devices that need to be charged from a USB wall plug, but not an infinite amount of wall plugs.

I'm looking to buy some kind of USB charging hub, however this isn't a topic I know much about, such as brands etc.

I did a search on Amazon but a lot of what I found had a lot of bad reviews.

So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or experience with any certain models/brands?

I'd prefer something with a cable, so I can plug it in behind my desk and have it sit on my desk, rather than a wallwart with loads of plugs on it.

I only need a 4/5 port hub, and it'll only have to charge a Nexus 5, Nexus 7, iPad 3 and a Patriot Fuel+ so I don't think it needs to be that powerful.

Any recommendations or ideas of where to look would be much appreciated, I don't want to buy something cheap that will only last a few weeks, or even worse damage the devices I have plugged in to it.

Thanks in advance!

I think that might be a bit much for what I need, while more ports isn't a bad thing I don't want to pay double for ports I don't need.

Anker makes a pretty nice desktop charging unit:

Do you have an Anker? One of the ones I found in my original search was an Anker product and it had bad reviews, saying that some ports didn't work right out of the box, some stopped working shortly after, and one even broke the devices connected to it. Though it was just a plastic one not an aluminium one like the one you posted, perhaps their higher end stuff might be better

Personally I haven't use that charging unit before so I'm not too sure about those possible problem with their other units. However reason why I bought it up is it has a 6amp capacity giving it the ability to have all 4 ports at 1.5A of charging or higher if there are less devices plugged in.

Oh I see, thanks!

They don't actually make that model any more and I can't really find it anywhere for a reasonable price. It's on the US amazon, in white, but the seller doesn't ship to the UK which sucks.

Would have been nice to have an aluminium one, but looking at their site they have a couple other offerings that might be useable..

Thanks!

Also vote for the Anker. I have both the recent 40w 5 port, and an older 25w 5 port chargers. Each one is used daily. I charge between them 3 tablets, 3 phones, 2 Bluetooth speakers, and 2 battery banks. Never had any problems. I have fully loaded the 40w with 5 devices multiple times with all devices charging at their max capacity.

Definitely recommend all their stuff. It may cost a bit more, but the quality is there.

Thanks for the reply!

I was definitely looking at their stuff, I was just a little put off with the negative reviews though. That being said they do also have a large amount of positive reviews.

It's just too bad about the aluminium one being discontinued, would have been great to have something like that sit on my desk.

Have you used their micro-usb cables? I need some more but every time I've bought some they've ended up breaking at one of the ends, even braided ones that I've paid extra for.

Looking to find a good source for them and just stock up.

I have a 6ft powerline+ micro usb that I love, and 2 powerline Apple cords.

The powerline+ was a bit expensive for just a cable, but it's much thicker / sturdier than any other cable I have ever used. It also does not freeze up in the cold, which is nice.
