Fan noise

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

Stock cooler? You might need to get whole new cooler. Stock cooler fans are pain and not practical to replace. You get nice new fan and cooler for less hassle and possible same money.

(This is my first post on the forums so if there is anything else I need to do, please let me know :D)

So I was really stupid to mess with my PC while it was on, and something fell into the CPU fan and broke one of the blades. Now, whenever I turn on my PC, it makes this loud grinding sound for a few seconds and goes back to normal. I have taken it off and put another fan I had, then realised it was a dead fan, so I am stuck with this fan. I'm thinking it is a gap in the airflow that is causing the noise, but I'm not sure. Cooling is a part of computers I am not really that great with. Anything else I can handle, but cooling is not my thing lol. I really don't want to pay for another fan if I don't have to, and I still have the blade that fell off. Would Hot Glue hold it back on or is there something else I could put on it or over it that would close the gap? Or does someone know what else it might be? I have heavily examined it and there is nothing else stuck there. What I have noticed is that it doesn't make this noise unless it's on the heatsink. Does someone know what this could be and/or how to fix this obnoxiousness? I happen to love hearing my PC turning on without DJQOFBEKAOCNEBYBAKDPGBRBWLFFOEBDB being there. Thanks!

Something might have fallen around your fan area, check the item you dropped isn't there.

I think your fan itself is fine, except for the blade :P

I would actually try some hot glue. I have my doubts as to how long it will hold, but as someone with extensive experience with a hot glue gun I DO think it would hold atleast temporarily(days, weeks maybe?) if you applied it right. You could also try some other adhesive like superglue which might be a more permanent solution.

Don't do drugs. Do hugs!

I think it might be an aftermarket cooler, but idk. If it is, then it's a really cheap and unknown cooler. It has a full heatsink and fan so yeah... Figure that one out lol

I gift you a picture

That looks like its screwed in. If so, you can change just fan. Looks like 80mm or smaller, so might be problematic to find.

Yeah I changed it out with another spare one I had, but it turned out to be a dead fan. :'(

Can you measure what size that fan is? 92mm and up and you can get new decent for under $10.
