I've been using the same headset for years, a Plantronics GameCom 780. They've also been broken for years. As you can see here:

So, I'm looking to get a new headset and I have around $50 USD to spend. A mic with decent quality is kind of important, as I'm often in teamspeak either hanging out with friends or rolling in a squad in Arma 3.

I might have a little wiggle room on the budget, or I may even be able to pick up a separate mic all together, like the ModMic, to focus on headphone quality.

I don't need anything too fancy, just something that'll be pleasing to listen to for long sessions while either gaming or listening to music.

Ironically I just closed off a post on techsyndiate about this....

I had/have an old set of headphone Senheiser HD555, they are about 12 years + old now. £60 at the time. Now £200+?

So I started a mission quizzing people whats good? Over ear.

Result was I ordered V-Moda top of the range non wireless just from ebay hongkong £70ish for £280 ish headphones.

1. they are not over ear

2. the material the ear pads are made of is the thing of what clouds are made of (if I ever win the lotter everything i wear will be made of this stuff)

3. they cant go as loud as the senheisers but audio balance is perfect

4. I thought senheiser were good, v-moda are better, even though they sit on my ear

5. I HATE, REALLY FCUKING HATE!!!! ANYTHING ON MY EAR. My ears ache after a while when using headphones, the senheiser didnt touch them, but they ached eventually 1 or 2 hours in. Vmoda, they are on my ears, they touch my ears, Goood, feels nice lol.. How?!

IMO VModa.

Silly posh box and case for them :)

Epic build quality.

The Antlion modmic is 4/5th of that budget. And you can't expect anything decent from $50. It will brick again very shortly.

I know the price of the mic. I also figured that anything in my budget wouldn't be good. I'll do some research on my own and see what I can find.

So why not spend the extra bit of money. Why spend the same amount of two crappy headsets, instead of on one proper pair that also sounds better.

Did some research, I could go for ATH-M30x (not the best, I know) that I found for $56 new or ATH-M40x for $85. I also found ATH-AD500X for $79 new.

I'll worry about a mic later, headphones are more important to me anyways.

Out of those three, which would you guys recommend? Or if you can find something else for $80 or so USD let me know and I'll check it out.

I did some research and that seems to be the best thing to do. I'm going to try to get the ATH-AD500X open headphones. Found a pair of them for $79. Read and watched a couple reviews and it seems like the only downfall is the cable.

And the wings, they're inadequate for 'normal' head support and you need to put some sort of elastic band (which you can adjust) between them to prevent it from sagging.

I've had them, traded 'em in for a K612 Pro.

Yeah the one review said something about using rubber bands for the wings, but he just bent the metal or something for better comfort and it didn't slide down.

Bye.

Next time, make an argument instead of throwing around random items without adding anything to the discussion.

Just ordered the AD500X's. I think I've solved my mic problem too, thanks for the help.

Got the new headphones today. They sound great. Tested them out with a bunch of flac audio and a few different games, I like them a lot so far. As for the mic I took my old headset, clipped the wire that runs up the headband and then broke off the plastic piece that houses the metal adjustable thing that also pivots. My friends in teamspeak say I just sound a bit further away but it's fine.
