not possible, but you could make a seperate rendering server, this offloads the rendering of the final product so you can work on other things on your 6700k while that xeon is rendering :)

What you're describing sounds like Intel's Phi coprocessors. They are essentially extra processors that you can slot in PCIe. Hugely expensive though and not really meant for home use. To answer your specific question though no, you can't connect two motherboards like that.

no, use your network for data transfer and build a whole new second pc

so lan would be the only option for fast data transfer

Yes, then you could transfer the files to a separate pc to render them.

How do you mean, as a server?

You could also try to install a 10gbit network.

Not sure what you mean, but probably not. But why would you go into such troubles to turn a motherboard into an ethernet card?

As said by multiple people, you just plain can't. PCIE cannot be used for that use.

What you're saying doesn't really make sense :) The PCIe is just a port that connect various devices with the motherboard. One of those devices would be an ethernet card.

What happened to the Ethernet ports on the motherboards? Also, 16GB RAM should be alrightish.

16 is the size of the simulations/ renders so it would have to be 32 which is not to bad with ddr3 ddr2 its just the max speed for Ethernet ports would be a bottle neck as its a lot of data back and forth

ok: you cannot work on both cpus at the same time, but they can do seperate things simultaniously (like editing and rendering)

its just nicer when they act like one cpu sharing the tasks

Instead of going 10GB get some PCIe 4GB fiber cards on ebay. ive seen them as low as $10+shipping each.

Get ones with either 2 or 4 4GB fiber ports, 2 or 4 fiber cables to go in between and then do what Linus did in his "Spoeed up your network" videos.
