Mixing different memory timings

I have an 8gb hyperx 1866mhz CL10 downclocking to 1600 at CL9 on my system and I have spare 2gb 1600 at CL11. Does mixing these two will harm any other components? I know there might be some stability issues or booting problems but does it do any harm like killing off my motherboard?

Rest of the system:

i5 4440 3.1

MSI H81M-E33

iGPU

Corsair VS550

Win 10 64bit

Mixing RAM isn't suggested by most people, although damage caused should be minimal.

Im afraid that if I put it and take it out, my pc will not work anymore

The only thing the RAM can really hurt is the CPU. Look up "Intel 0.5V rule" for more. It has to do with VTT and DRAM voltages. But it barely ever manifests and so long as you keep your voltages in check, you're fine anyway. Why not just force them all to 1600/CL11 or even 1866/CL11.

Well I can't change voltages probably because of the limits of this motherboard

Some boards will just match RAM clocks, try it and see

CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 3960X | Motherboard: Intel DX79SR "Stormville" | RAM: 32GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 PC3-12800 (4x 8GB) Quad-Channel | GPU: 2x EVGA GTX 970 FTW 4GB in SLI (I have Many other builds plus 100+ Macs (don't judge me)... Many specs are listed on my profile)

Do I set DRAM Timing Mode to Link or Unlink?

I believe link, if it doesn't work you can just reset it and try again

Not sure, it might be matched up... It looks like it might be matched to the 10 11 clocks, but hey if it works I wouldn't worry and you're still running in dual channel so that's a plus
