I hate how my current keyboard is stupid mushy, guy at my local computer shop recommended I check out mechanical keyboards. Totally unfamiliar with them and the brands did some research they seem to be around 150 for one, I see some that are way cheaper but I don't know if they are reliable brands. I found the Das Keyboard Ultimate S for 70 on ebay. I don't want to buy new because its my first and I don't want to regret it if I find it unnecessary personally. Also I prefer wireless and I cant find one that is a true mechanical while being wireless if anyone knows if they exist enlighten me. I am not much of a gamer anymore so input lag is not a huge concern and even when I get a gaming class gpu I plan on using a wired xbox controller anyways. Now my big issue with this das keyboard I am looking at it has no actual lettering for some reason, where can I get key caps with letters just in case I cant adjust to that. Who knows it would probably force me to be a good typist. Also these cherry switches which color is the quietest out of the bunch?

Wireless and mechanical don't really mix, there might be a couple but they are very niche.

Basically, you want a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX switches, they are the most popular for a reason. Cherry makes several types of switches and separated them by color. For instance, MX Blues are loud and clicky and pretty light, MX Reds are light and linear (no click), MX Blacks are heavy and linear (again no click), MX Browns are quiet and sort of clicky, bit heavier feel too. Those are pretty much the main four switches, I recommend typing on several to see which switch you like. They are very different from membrane keyboards and are well worth the cost.

Once you settle on the switch you like, choose a manufacturer. I recommend companies like Corsair, Ducky, Filco, Majestouch, Cooler Master, Logitech (although they have other brand switches so be careful), etc.

And that's it. The keyboard you choose will last years longer than a membrane, and the typing experience is bar none. :)

Cherry MX Browns are by far the quietest Cherry switches that are actually worth a damn for typing because you still get tactile feedback.

Unfortunately there aren't going to be very many wireless mechanical keyboards because the idea behind these premium keyboards is that they're as responsive and reliable as possible, they're not really made for gaming or working from a couch. Wired is imo a much better way to go if you can help it.

Have a look at some of Cooler Master's keyboards, they have all sorts of different sizes, formats and lighting schemes that you can browse through.

Corsair does nice keyboards as well but I tend to steer clear of them because they can be overpriced and their LEDs have a reputation of dying prematurely, even when designed not to do so.

The keycaps are entirely modular, so while on most cherry MX keyboards you'll find standard numbering and lettering, you can order custom ones online that you can use to customize your keyboard and make it your own. You can also put rubber O-rings around the stems of the keycaps to eliminate the clack at the bottom of the keystroke.

If you want a silent switch, youre gonna wanna go with MX Silents :P Unfortunately it is only available on the RGB Strafe from Corsair which is expensive. Id recommend looking into a keyboard with Red switches and get a packet of o-rings to dampen the sound.

As for your wireless question, I dont believe there is one, or if there is, not any good ones because if there were we'd have heard about them by now :/

That is what i figured on the wireless front thanks I am just the type to recline and keep the keyboard in my lap ill just get an extension and tape it up. I wish I could try out these different switches in person but I am just going to buy blind on that regard. So black or brown switches according to byalexandr's post, Ill check out coolermasters line up also. I just like how Das Keyboards look but none of you said they are good, but you all did not say anything bad about them either. Ill do more reading thanks.

Actually MX Reds are the quietest, but MX Browns are way better for typing.

Das Keyboard used to be good but now they don't use Cherry switches anymore, they use Greetech I believe which is sub par in my opinion.

That's kinda what I said, I said that MX Browns are the quietest if you actually want to get stuff done rather than just spam keys in games, which doesn't seem to be what OP needs or wants to do atm. they're the quietest that are actually worth it.

But I love spamming keys!

I personally like the loud click of my Blues. :) Only drawback is that my parents know that I'm awake at 2AM by the sound of keyboard xD

I rock the blues too and they're amazing. Because they're so clicky and responsive and they are lovely.

I rock the reds, but they are my first set of Cherry switches. I intend to go browns in the future.

i wanted browns for typing, ended up with reds because i wanted the k65 rgb by corsair and they only come with red. but i love them, still miles better for typing than any membrane keyboard. i too will probably go brown next though, just to mix things up.

That's not true, they still use cherry switches. It's only on 2 of their keyboards (the tenkeyless ones) that use the greetech switches, and in all honesty, I like a lot of these knockoff brands better than cherry. I like greetech and gaterons are better than cherry, specially gateron as they're smoother and more crisp

Basically there are many different key switches such as the browns reds blues blacks and many more (those are the most common ones). I personally  prefer the blues. The browns are quiet and tactile the reds are tactile and clicky with little push back and easy submission. blues are tactile and clacky with medium resistance to click. blacks are clacky with little tactile feedback and have a hard resistance. ( I know the least about reds and blacks.) for a keyboard i would recommend the corsair K70 for about 130$. http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Black-Cherry-CH-9000067-NA/dp/B00IYJD5CY/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1459895164&sr=1-2&keywords=k70

I got this for 89 at best buy i am very happy that the cherry reds are not as noisy or as clicky as i read. I was glad bestbuy had demo units.  And I htought the rgb craze was stupid but be able to switch from red blue or white depending on my mood is nice.
