Help with new build....

Go to solution Solved by cc143,

If you don't need wifi go with the asus z170A, especially since you are not overclocking. (even if you do need wifi you could probabply get a pcie wifi card or something for under $50.)

Go with a hyper 212 evo instead, no need for the noctua cooler since you are not overclocking,  (If you are only gaming get a 6600K instead, not worth it getting an i7.)

You could also go with a 550-600W PSU, 750W for a single 980ti is redundant, that said, it is the only part you could actually futureproof so unless you really need to get the price down I'd keep the 750W one.

You could spend what you saved on a 256 950 pro M.2 SSD instead, but the 850 evo should be just fine.

Could also go with an NZXT S340 to bring price down a bit.

you don't need the I7 6700k because you wont be overclocking so I switched that for a i7 6700 and took off the cpu cooler because the stock cooler will be fine if you aren't looking to overclock

Cost: $1636.59

I have an Anet A8 as my project printer and a i3 MK3 for when I want things to work.

I extrude my own filament and haven't saved a penny yet.

is the difference in clock speed (3.4 and 4.0 ghz) not significant enough?

Update the PCPartPicker.... http://pcpartpicker.com/user/brysonyumul/saved/K92XsY

I am learning MAYA and Unity right now, so is the 6700 or 6700k better than 6600k?

Is the Asus wifi card better than gigabyte? I do have an AC router and 5 ghz...

took your advice, changed my cooler, Case, and PSU(EVGA 650W)

The gigabyte adapter I linked says it supports ac wifi, so it should be no issue. I can't account for it however by any means other than the reviews and recommendations it has on pcpartpicker. What I can account for is the built in wifi solution on the Z170 deluxe which is, in my opinion excellent. At the same time, I can't recommend that you spend effectively double the money on it. In the end of the day, the PCIe solution is perfectly viable and much cheaper. I would go with the gigabyte one to save money.

As far as the MAYA thing is concerned I do not know how and if it leverages multiple cores or multithreading. All it mentions in the website is that a " 64-bit Intel® or AMD® multi-core processor" is required. Whether it would be best to use an i7 is something I cannot say. If you want to go the i7 route and are not overclocking go with the 6700, although, since you don't know if you would get into overclocking in the future, the 6700k is not a bad decision provided you can afford it.

You are still saving a sizeable amount.

I see you chose not to use the 950pro, it is quite a lot faster from what I am given to understand.
